Find What Was Lost

I departed the Orc hold and spotted a Dwarven tower nearby.  Thinking it might hide an entrance into the underground city I suspect is here, I explored it to no avail.  It was a tower plain and simple.  No hidden entrances around.  No sign of why a tower would be here.  There may be an ingenious hidden door, but I couldn't find it.  The Orcs said the place was called Reachwind Eyrie and it is aptly named.  High and windy it is with a good view.  But what was here for the tower to guard?

I headed back to the Pale and home.  I began to wonder if the passage way I had only partly explored up near the ancestral estates at Dragon Falls might be an entry way into the city.  I grabbed Ormund and we headed up there and explored.  It looked promising at first, infested as it was with Falmar, but it turns out to probably be more an extension of the time of the dragon lords.  Didn't see any sign of Dwarf work therein.  Did find a captive Argonian named Derkeethus who we set free.  Seemed a rather grateful fellow.

I next turned my journies back to the College of Mages in Winterhold.  I had in mind to do more research into the library on the origin of dragons and on enchantment.  The enchanting devices in Academy in Cyrodil were so much more powerful than the devices here.

The library is host to many ancient texts, but it is difficult even for an Archmage to get the librarian to release any of them for study.  But buried deeply in the most ancient of texts I found a reference to what may be the origin of dragons.  In time before legends the All-father created mighty spiritual creatures of various levels and degrees as a manifestation of his glory.  One of these grew jealous of the rest of creation, especially the creation of elves and men.  He recruited to himself some of the lesser spirits who through corruption and evil became spirits of fire and flame.  It was said they went about the earth as mighty creatures of fire with whips of flame.  And that seven of their brethen who had not fallen had been sent into the earth in the form of wise and ancient men to combat these creatures.  The text went on to hypothesize that much as the orc was a twisting of the ancient race of elves, the dragon was a mingling most likely of elf and fire demon.  It was also noted that these fire demons had mighty children often born in the form of men who ruled in their name.  Could these have been the first dragon lords, manifest in an age even before the age remembered no in legend of the dragon lords?  And could this be the source of the dragon blood that flows now through the veins of the races of the earth giving rise in my case to being "Dragon Born"?

I also discovered some very key information about enchantment here in the north.  It is not only the devices that are limited, but rather access to the source itself is limited.  Somehow more restricted here, as if at some time great cataclysmic events or battles took place forever altering the shape of creation and its foundations here.  But that said, I discovered a key which if not allowing me to freely enchant weapons and armor, greatly expanded my possibilities in laying dual enchantments upon devices.  And so it should be feasibly possible to enhance my abilities with the gift (and even the sword) by investing one time in the making of the thing but without later drawing upon the source through me, but the object should draw apart from me and function.  I began to think the time had come to finish working on the Mage Armor I had started to smith some time back.

The need for this was never more apparent than on Onmund's and my stop in Dawnstar.  Not long after arrival the town was attacked by two ancient heavily armored dragons.  One was powerful in fire, the other in cold.  And in the midst of the battle a giant entered town and attacked Onmund.  I begin to wonder if the giants are in league with these beasts somehow.  The town guard took casualties, many serious wound and a death.  I myself was wounded and Onmund was seriously wounded.  I found him laying after the battle.  After a few days he was able to travel so we headed back to the Pale, him riding and myself walking.

We needed time to recuperate so I took the time to study and practice my new theories in enchantment and was delighted to learn they worked fine on rings and necklaces.  So I awoke early one morning and began to work upon my armor and by dinner I had some of the strongest most powerful armor I've had, in someways stronger than that I had before in Cyrodil.  More flexible and comfortable.  Powerful in the gift.  The renewal of the source is strong, the pool of the source is large, and its augmentation of my sword skills is not insignificant either.

I decided to test my new armor and traveled alone to Ft. Dunstad, as often bandits house there.  Lidia was beside herself, but I put my foot down.  The armor was incredible indeed.  I cleaned out the hole nest of them, taking a few minor wounds from the best of them.  But between the source and my sword they could not stand.

I was in great spirits and felt like hunting.  I had never been in the hills directly to the east and so resolved to venture up and take game.  What I discovered has deepened my appreciation of just how serious these dragons have become.  A lair, or at least I think it was a lair.  But there was a great evil beast there and I could sense its power, great... so great that I fled on horseback rather than challenge the beast.  I will seek the help of those who have allied with me and discover what this place is about.
